Product Description Retrain your Brain: Keen by Habit Aware is a smart bracelet that brings awareness to unwanted behaviors so YOU can take control. No two motions are the same - that’s why we’ve designed Keen so you train it for YOUR specific behavior, like hair pulling (trichotillomania), skin picking (), nail biting or thumb sucking. Training Keen with our iOS or Android app takes less than 30 seconds. After that, you can ditch your phone. All the gesture detection capabilities are right on the smart bracelet - but our app does have some cool features to help you adjust Keen’s sensitivity, track your behavior and more. When Keen senses your hand movements, it sends a gentle vibration to help you build your awareness muscles and take control of unwanted behaviors. This vibration is like a “hug” around your wrist that helps wake you up so you can make positive change in your life. We’ve also thoughtfully designed Keen so it blends in if you’re not ready to share, but our team’s mission is to speak out and end the stigma around these behaviors. You can also connect more than one bracelet to the app, in case you need one for each hand. Keen was born out of personal necessity - our founder started hair pulling in her teens. We know how hard these issues can be and we are here to help you get set up for success with Keen. Our Keen family is important to us and we offer a robust set up wiki, as well as personal training calls for anyone who might need a little extra TLC. From the Manufacturer Retrain Your Brain

My 9 year old started to pull her eyebrows at the beginning of 4th grade. At first she told me she was shaping it. But after two weeks They went from shaped, to thin, to very thin, to sparse, to completely bald. She finally admitted to enjoying the sensation and that she didn't really have control of the pulling. We took her to the doctor who unhelpfully said, "Oh, she'll grow out of it. My kid did it too and they grew out of it. So will your kid." The doctor recommended getting her fidget toys in the meantime. We got twirly fidget rings, bracelets, necklaces, stress balls to help her. But then, I noticed her arm and leg hairs vanished. And then her eyelashes...One day, thanks to AI data mining, this product was recommended to me while I was browsing the internet and researching trichotillomania. I ordered one immediately. It was easy to set up and "train" it via the app of the motions. But to do that it requires some self awareness. My kid had to dig deep and really think about which hand, when, what position, what motion. Going through this process and was stressful, but completely necessary.Once the device was trained, it doesn't work all that well. She complained of constant false alerts, or no alerts when she was pulling. We attempted to retrain several times.Furthermore, the design and technology is that of 1st generation wearables from 15 years ago. There's the silicone band that holds the actual device. the device doesn't have a screen. It doesn't have a very long battery life and needs charging every 2-3 days. To charge, you have to pop the device out of the silicone band. The charge port is a regular micro usb that feels delicate and potentially wear out prematurely with the plugging and pulling of the charger every 2 days. And the style of the charge port makes it not water resistant. I had a 1st gen Fitbit, after the silicone band loosened, the device fell out and went missing...For such old and simple technology that doesn't work as well as it should, the price is a lot to ask. After a week, my daughter refused to wear it, siting it was too much trouble and not really helping. What did help my daughter though is the exercise we went through of becoming aware of her habit...while we were training the device. She has now accepted she has this habit. She is aware now of how, when, and why she does this. And she is managing it with our support. However, we did send this bracelet back within the 30 day return window. While this didn't with for us, I have mixed feelings because his is such a necessary device and had potential. I sincerely hope it continues to improve because a lot of people definitely can use the help and support it is intended to provide.
